I’m pleased to say we received the quilt this morning and I have to say it is absolutely fantastic!
Unfortunately Gabrielle is not well at the moment and has been off school for a week. She is absolutely thrilled with it and a bit blown away that people like yourselves dedicate your own time to make something special just for her. It’s something we’ll treasure for years to come given the time, effort and love that has gone into making it.
Gabrielle had her regular monthly blood transfusion yesterday which probably takes her well over 150 blood transfusions for her life however with the continued generosity and spirit of people like yourselves we’re moving closer and closer towards a cure for Diamond Blackfan Anaemia.
Once again, a sincere thanks to you and the team for the beautiful quilt – deeply appreciated.

Biography

Gabrielle is an identical twin with Jasmine who were born prematurely at 32 weeks being 3 pounds 6 and 2 pound 7 respectively. It was clear that something was not right and after several months the girls were diagnosed with Diamond Blackfan Anaemia. DBA affects only 800 people worldwide. Unfortunately Jasmine passed away at 5 months of age after succumbing to an infection which she could not fight due to DBA. Gabrielle lives with DBA however is transfusion dependent having blood transfusions every 4 weeks to stay alive. Transfusion dependency is not a long term solution and eventually affects internal organs and increases your chances of serious illness early in life. Through Captain Courageous Foundation we are raising funds to help find a cure for DBA and other blood cancers and diseases.
