This past week has seen our first signed-up squares arrive from Beth Filmer – thank you Beth. More completed squares have been displayed on our Facebook page; we are looking forward to seeing them arrive safely.

We now have 55 Facebook members.

Diana made good use of some wonderful donations that came in and took advantage of a local fabric store sale. The end result is a lovely variety of theme fabric to choose from for up-coming quilts. Thank you to everyone who contributed to this.

After a request from New Zealand, a decision was made to extend the LQAu territory to include NZ. Because international postage will be an issue for completed quilts, the thought is to collect the squares and top quilt fabrics here in Australia, and post these to a quilter in NZ for completion.

Thank you everyone for your continued support for this project.

What a week it has been! Love Quilts Australia was born to the sounds of much rejoicing both here in Australian and overseas. A big thank you to everyone who played such an important part behind the scenes – encouraging, offering support, signing up for stitching, volunteering to quilt, etc. In particular a big thank you to Gaynor for all the effort she put in to get the website and Facebook page active. Some of you managed to see pictures of Gaynor waving from the other side of the world as she helped Diana with some testing of uploading pictures of squares.

Diana has been busy learning lots of new skills, including how to use the webcam on her computer. She has also been pursuing her second favourite pastime; shopping (for material). No prizes for guessing what her favourite pastime is – cross stitching!

Our first official quilt opened and closed to stitchers within 12 hours – amazing for a first launch! It is a Butterfly Stitch-A-Long. Congratulations to Elaine Ainsworth for being the first stitcher to sign up for a square for LQAu. A second Purple Theme Stitch-A-Long also opened, and closed. So, our first two quilts are now underway. More are being planned, so don’t forget to keep a watch on our web page for these to open.

Judith Saebel managed to secure the Butterfly, Purple Theme, and upcoming Shell card slots. These are signed up via the Facebook page. Thank you Judith for being your initiative as these hadn’t been advertised.

We have also received our first Any Child squares; 5 from Dyah Baiton and some of her friends. We look forward to seeing the Any Child collection grow.

Our stash of border fabric is growing slowly. Quilt covers are next on the list.

We’ve also had our first official donation. Without mentioning names, thank you to one of the LQ family’s most prolific stitchers. PayPal is alive and works well.

A few people have put up their hand to help with quilting. This is a great relief as Diana could only manage one quilt a month.

44 people now have joined our Facebook page; it’s a great place to pop in to have a natter about all things LQAu. Your questions will be happily answered by one of our great members.

We’d also love for you to recommend LQAu to parents and guardians of chronically sick children you may meet. Our sign-up page will be open from time to time.

Thank you one and all for your willingness to be a part of this wonderful project for children.
